Fourteen year old Zachary...

Had been in trouble at school and was in danger of being expelled for the remaining school year.  His father had been in prison since Zachary was three, and he lived with his mother, who said Zachary had anger problems at home.  After signing up with Ascent, Zachary was sent to finish the year out at expulsion school.  Around this same time, the team added independent living (ILSB) to Zachary's Plan of Care.  At first, Zachary was not happy, but after he began ILSB classes, he found that enjoyed working on his skills.  As basketball sessions began, Zachary expressed an interest in playing on the school team, but he thought is was impossible since he had class at the same time the other students were practicing.  In response, the team assisted his mother as she worked with the school to rearrange Zachary's schedule and enable him to play basketball.  He continued to make good grades and progressed in the ILSB program.  The team held a celebration to honor his accomplishments.  His ILSB provider submitted Zachary's name to the Mayor to be recognized for his outstanding accomplishments and his completion of the first phase of ILSB.  In front of his family and friends, Zachary was awarded a certificate by the Mayor for his accomplishments.  He is becoming a true leader for his community.
