Ascent received a referral for Alexis...

She was 17 year old girl in a psychiatric residential treatment facility.  Alexis had been living with various family members from the ages of 14 to 16 when she reported being raped and sexually abused by an uncle, beginning when she was just 9 years old.  Alexis was taken into state custody and transitioned through several placements before ending up in a Children's Home.  Tracy, Alexis's mother, had recently been released from prison, where she had been since Alexis was 4 years old.  The Department of Child and Family Services' (DCFS) goal was reunification, but Tracy was running out of time.  Ascent began working with mother and daughter to develop a plan of care, specific to their needs and strengths, and to bring a team together to work toward one goal.  Team members included DCFS, a family support specialist, and the Children's Home therapists.  After 3 months of persistent work, Alexis's mother completed all DCFS requirements, and mother and daughter were successfully reunited.  Tracy told her Wraparound Facilitator, "No one had faith in me until Ascent, and this plan wasn't going anywhere until Ascent."
